How does e-prescribing work?

E-prescribing is the standard process for how your Oana prescription gets from your clinician to your pharmacy — and ultimately to your door. Here's how it works step by step:

Step 1: Your clinician approves your treatment plan.

After reviewing your medical intake, your Oana clinician either approves your treatment, requests more information, or recommends Oana isn't the right fit. If your treatment is approved, your clinician writes the prescription electronically — meaning it's generated and submitted through Oana's clinical system, not handwritten or printed.

Step 2: The prescription is transmitted electronically to the partner pharmacy.

E-prescribing means the prescription is sent securely from Oana's clinical system to the partner pharmacy preparing your medication. This is faster, more accurate, and more secure than paper prescriptions — there's no handwriting to interpret, no risk of the prescription getting lost, and the pharmacy receives your information directly from the prescribing clinician.

Step 3: The pharmacy prepares your medication.

Once the pharmacy receives the prescription, they prepare your medication according to the prescribed dose and instructions. For compounded medications (like compounded semaglutide, HairlessHype, HairPlusPlus, Oral Minoxidil, or Topical Metformin), this means preparing the specific formulation per your prescription. For standard medications (like Metformin ER or Bupropion), this means dispensing the prescribed amount.

Preparation typically takes 1-2 business days for compounded medications, less for standard prescriptions.

Step 4: Your medication ships to your door.

Once your medication is prepared, the pharmacy ships it discreetly to the address on file. Shipping is free, and the packaging is plain — no Oana branding or medication name visible on the outside. Most orders arrive within 3-5 business days from prescription approval, though specific timing depends on your location and the medication.

Step 5: Refills happen automatically.

When your prescription is part of an ongoing treatment plan, refills are coordinated automatically. You'll receive notifications before your next shipment so you know what's coming and when. If you need to pause, change, or cancel, you can manage your subscription through your account.

A few practical notes:

  • You won't see a paper prescription. Because e-prescribing is electronic, there's no physical prescription handed to you or mailed to you separately. Your medication arrives directly from the pharmacy, ready to use.
  • The prescription is on file with both Oana and the partner pharmacy. If you ever need a record of your prescription for insurance, FSA/HSA reimbursement, or another provider, you can request it through your account.
  • If you're transferring care from another provider, your existing prescription from that provider doesn't need to be transferred. Oana writes a new prescription based on your current intake and clinical evaluation.
  • If you need a medication outside Oana's catalog, you'll work with your primary care provider, OB-GYN, or relevant specialist for that prescription — see "Can my clinician prescribe medications that aren't on Oana's product list?" above.

If you have questions about the prescription process or want to track where your medication is, you can ask through your account, and Oana's support team can give you specific status updates.
