The ingredients in HairPlusPlus carry minimal risk of side effects, particularly compared to oral hair loss medications. Most side effects are localized to the scalp where the spray is applied.
Most common side effect:
- Mild scalp redness (erythema) the most commonly reported effect from topical latanoprost. Usually mild and often resolves as the skin adjusts.
Other possible side effects (rare but reported):
- Scalp irritation dryness, itching, scaling, flaking, or mild burning sensation. Most commonly attributed to the retinoic acid in the formulation.
- Application site reactions redness or sensitivity in the areas where the spray is applied.
About each active ingredient:
- Minoxidil (topical) side effects from topical minoxidil are uncommon, but can include dryness, itching, scaling, flaking, or redness at the application site.
- Retinoic acid can cause redness, dryness, scaling, mild burning, or itching in the first weeks of use. Often improves as the skin adjusts.
- Latanoprost (topical) the most commonly reported effect is mild redness of the skin at the application site.
A note on the temporary shedding phase. As with Oral Minoxidil, HairPlusPlus can cause an increase in shedding in the first 2 to 8 weeks of starting. This is the hair cycle resetting, not a side effect — older resting hairs being pushed out so new growth can come in. It typically resolves within several weeks. What to do:
- Mild scalp irritation in the first weeks often resolves as your skin adjusts. Continue the protocol unless the irritation is significant.
- If irritation is significant or worsening, message your clinician. Sometimes the answer is reducing application frequency temporarily; sometimes adjusting the formulation; sometimes pausing and restarting.
- Report any side effects you're experiencing to your prescribing clinician through your account.
If you experience signs of an allergic reaction (significant facial swelling, difficulty breathing, severe rash), seek immediate medical attention.
