Can I use sunscreen or makeup with Eflornithine?

Yes. Sunscreen and makeup work fine with Eflornithine 12%, with one rule: wait for the cream to dry completely before layering anything on top of it.

Drying typically takes a few minutes after application. Once the skin no longer feels wet or tacky to a gentle touch, you can apply sunscreen, moisturizer, makeup, or any other products on top.

A few practical points specific to Eflornithine 12%.

  • The order is: cleanse, apply Eflornithine, wait for it to dry, then sunscreen and makeup. Don't apply moisturizer or other products before the Eflornithine has had a chance to absorb.
  • Eflornithine is generally well-tolerated with sun exposure. That said, daily SPF on the areas where you apply Eflornithine is still a good practice — both for general skin protection and to prevent any potential reactivity.
  • Talk to your clinician about other prescription or over-the-counter products you're using on your face. If you're applying Tretinoin, Retinol, Salicylic Acid, or other actives, your clinician can help you build a routine that avoids over-irritation. The single-ingredient nature of Eflornithine 12% often makes it easier to layer with other actives — but coordination still matters.
  • If you're switching between Eflornithine 12% and HairlessHype for any reason, the application rules above are the same — but the layering compatibility may differ because of the additional ingredients in HairlessHype.

If your skin reacts to Eflornithine in the first few weeks (mild redness, dryness, or stinging at the application site), this is common and typically resolves as the skin adjusts. If it persists or worsens, message your Oana clinician.
